RogerB
I'm looking at what's claimed to be a 1978 J55. The serial number is F922788. I cannot find that serial number. Can anyone help please? It has a Kalamazoo label and a Gibson Warranty card through A-1 music. Everything looks right but I'm not able to verify the serial number. ksdaddy
F plus six digits is usually associated with 1974-75.
RogerB
Thanks. If it's in good shape would it be worth $1400?
zombywoof
The only thing that I can think of about a J55 which would make it more desirable than something like a Norlin-era J45 or J50 is that like the Gospel it has a laminate arched back (the J55 sports mahogany while the Gospel has a maple body). While I have no personal experience with price tags, according to Reverb, J55s in good condition go for between $700 to $1K. The average price paid for one in very good condition though would be just over $1500.
