Gibson Thunderbird Serial Number

I have a 1976 Gibson Thunderbird. The serial number isn’t sunken into the headstock, it stands proud. I’ve owned the bass since 1983 and have never been able to read the serial number as it’s really worn. Any ideas if the number is stored anywhere else on the bass?
