Gassing for a J-180 (Everly) model

Hey guys!

Getting that urge for a new (or used in this case) axe. I've been wanting a J-180 for a long time. Anyone like/dislike the pickguards? It took a long time to grow on me, but at a certain point I started to like the look... my wife thinks it's hideous though.

How's the sound? From what I've heard (mostly on youtube), it's pretty bright. Does it retain the jumbo depth like a J-185 through those pickguards?

I have to admit I've never been a fan of double pickguards on any guitar, the Everly included. That's not to say they aren't cool in their own right, since something like this is always going to be subjective (and I do think the ebony finish looks incredible on that particular guitar).

I have wondered the same thing as you regarding the tone of this model-- is it affected by amount of real estate taken up by the pickguards (vs a J-185)? It will be interesting to hear from others.

Great strumming guitars and tend to need to be pushed. I have played

both the J-180 and a J-185 side by side with no appreciable difference

in tone or volume. Both were like new and neither had really opened up,

but the 180 was as loud as the 185. I think you are buying "the vibe" with

the J-180 which is very cool if you are into the ebony finish and double

pickguards. A lot of big name artists have added a J-180 to their arsenal

from time to time.....Everly Brothers, Cat Stevens, Paul McCartney, Tom

Petty, etc..... I especially like the Custom Shop version with the moustache

bridge and star inlays.
