theodessakid
Hi, saw an add for a Standard with the following upgrades. What will they do for the guitar? 1. Aluminum Gotoh tail piece 2. orange drop caps. 3. 500K CTS pots. 4. vintage wiring configuration like a 59 Paul What does it all mean
Tom99SS
Well I have 3 out of the 4 upgrades that are mentioned. 1) 500K CTS pots. Same value that was in Les Pauls from the beginning until July '73. Really opens up the pickup volume and tone. Less muddy sounding especially for the neck pickup. 2) Caps Well I have the Spargue Vitamin Q's but anything is better than the stock ceramic (tone sucking) caps. Orange Drops (if they are the 715P) as very good caps. 3) 50's wiring This allows one to retain the highs when the volume is rolled down via the volume knob on the guitar. Std, when the volume is rolled down you lose some of the highs also. I do not have a light weight tailpiece. If you would like to here some guitars setup like this go to CV Guitars. These have 50's wiring, 500k CTS Pots and Orange Drop caps. Listen to the Bridge pickup for the difference. Hope this helps. One thing of note, no two guitars will sound the same even if they are setup identically.
