GhrT
It's been a looooooong time I've been here.. Anyhow! A couple of minutes ago I noticed this on the golden (gate, hurhurhur) bridge of my SG3: I'm sorry the picture isn't sharper, but you should see what's wrong. The left side of the bridge turned grey, I have absolutely no idea how that could've happened. I just noticed it a couple of minutes ago while I was putting new strings on her. Does anyone have an idea? Is there a way to get the shiny gold look back?
cabba2203
That happens to the nickle on my bridges too. It's from your hand rubbing on it and the acids/oils from your skin. Totally normal. You are "Relic-ing" your own guitar. :D The only way to get the gold plated shine back is to get it re-plated. In the future, you can slow the process by wiping down your guitar after each use to keep the acids/oils from your skin from sitting on there eating away at the plated finish. GhrT
Oh, so it's nothing to worry about then? Thanks for telling cabba!
Guest rogerb
Hello, cabba2203 is correct, the wearing down of the gold plating is from your hand rubbing the bridge, most likely your body chemistry is contributing to this as well. You can replace the bridge with a new one. The part number is PBBR-040. Check with an authorized Gibson dealer for availability.
