msr13
Hello. How do you interpret Gibson Model numbers? I understand how serial numbers work, but not the Model numbers. My 335's number is: ESDTTB NH1 The ES is obvious, but what does the rest mean? Thanks for any answers.
jmjohnson
NH = Nickel Hardware TB = Finish code DT = Dot? an easier one... My 336: CS-336F Product Code = CS336FFVSNH1 FF figured VS = vintage sunburst NH nickel Hardware or ESDTCHNH1 CH = Cherry NH - Nickel DT = ? msr13
That makes total sense. TB= Tri-Burst. I wonder still what the "1" refers to. Thanks for the response.
jmjohnson
That I don't I know - the few Gibsons I have had ended in 1 (Traditional, 335 Satin, and the 336)! I have seen some end in DIS, but I don't know what that means either! (on a worn LP 50s tribute)
jmjohnson
Hmm...check Amazon for different model numbers, they list them in the description... An Antique Red BLOCK inlay is: ESDYARDNH1 While a Light Burst DOT inlay is: ESDTLBNH1 so maybe DY vs DT is 'block' vs 'dot'? But a Plain Top Dot Vintage Sunburst is: ESDPVSNH1 and a Transparent Black is: ESDSTBKCH1 so i guess not!!! hmm...P= Plain maybe? S=satin, ok CH= chrome, Ok
msr13
I think you are right. The satin 335 do come with chrome, I believe. So, using the Black one: ESDSTBKCH1 ES-335 Dot Satin Transparent Black Chrome Still not sure what the 1 is.
msr13
Evidently the "1" refers to First Quality... meaning no flaws... not a second.
Col F
"DT" Translation: D = Dot (vs. block markers) T = Figured Top (don't know how Gibson derived that nomenclature) vs. P = Plain Top DT = Dot, Figured Top DP = Dot, Plain Top
albertjohn
My 335 is: ESDTLBNH1 Figured top, dot inlays, lightburst finish, nickel hardware and I can't find anything at all wrong with it. All makes sense to me.
