Californiaman Posted July 16, 2010 Share Posted July 16, 2010 I stumbled into a great used CD store in Santa Monica Wednesday. Buy three used CDs get the fourth free. So I picked up a copy of Dave Alvin's—Ashgrove. This is a tremendous album. The guitar playing and tone he congers up is amazing. I can't stop listening to it. Ashgrove, Black Sky, Out of Control, Sinful Daughter and Black Haired Girl are all great songs. Then slow it down for some great story telling and songs like Rio Grande, Nine Volt Heart and Everett Ruess are all so vivid the imagery just scoops you up and takes you away. My favorite songs on the album are Ashgrove, Out of Control, Sinful Daughter, Nine Volt Heart, Rio Grande and Everett Ruess. So much good listening packed into one album.
