Could be a preamp tube.

Things getting kind of ringy? Getting a kind of an almost bell like sound after you strike a note?

Could be a preamp tube.

I'm off to the shop.

12AX7s.

What do you use?

There are so many different brands. GE, Sylvania, Mullard, Telefunken, Amprex, Electro Harmonix.

Does NOS or vintage really matter?

It's for a 6V6 5E3 12-watt deluxe.

What do you recommend?

So I called an amp tech to inquire about preamp tubes.

He told me that the Groove Tube 12ax7R tubes are the best for my amp.

He specifically told me not to get the 12ax7C tubes, as they are more prone to static noise.

So Groove Tube makes three different 12ax7r tubes.

Hopefully my guitar tech has a matched set.[cool]

I guess it depends on what sound you're after. I did a lot of reading of reviews and manufacturer descriptions and decided on Groove Tubes 12ax7-C. I use pre amp and poweramp tube distortion (no distortion box) and like to hear something between George Lynch (Lynch Mob sounds) and Billy Gibbons' fat tonal squeal and sustain. The GTs are working for me in my JMP1.
