Californiaman Posted August 5, 2010 Share Posted August 5, 2010 I've had a Ruby 12ax7 in my Gibson GA-5. After hearing the Groove Tubes 12ax7 in it, I'm convinced you can hear the difference. The Ruby is dark, muddy, almost sloppy when overdriven. The Groove Tube is tight and focussed with more midrange. Anybody else got anything to add? L5Larry Posted August 6, 2010 Share Posted August 6, 2010 The biggest "service" that GT provides is their testing, grading, and quality control procedures. That is what you pay the premium for. In my opinion and experience, it's worth the extra few bucks. About tube manufacturing in general, Chinese tubes are thought to be "bottom of the barrel".
