Which double neck, Gibson or Epiphone? The epi's are only PAF REPLICA'S and are made in china.... BLEH!!!! Almost anyone loves the real PAF sound. Tone hounds such as Jimmy Page, Joe Perry, and Eddie Van Halen used PAF's. And yes, EVH's original Frankenstrat has a PAF. This is the guitar he used to record the first two Van Halen albums, which EVH is said to have the ULTIMATE tone during this era (the brown sound) And the reason for such a high price on the $6000 pair is because they're original vintage pickups. He put a slightly stronger magnet in it and also potted it as well. Once he got it the way he liked it, he had Seymour Duncan copy it - just for him. Only recently has this pickup surfaced as the EVH78, a custom wind from SD. (EVH stands for Evenly Voiced Harmonics, according to Duncan.) He also used several guitars on the first two albums. An Explorer, A Les Paul, and his Chavel/Boogie 'strat'.

Raptor
PAFs were only made between 1957 and 1962, then Gibson changed them slightly and added the patent number sticker. Patent number pickups were made between 62 and 65, then Gibson switched to the T-Top. The term PAF is thrown around a lot, but anything other than these originals are PAF clones of one sort or another. You can read the history of them here http://www.provide.net/~cfh/paf.html If you don't like the tone of the pickups that Gibson uses in the EDS1275 then switch them out. You are not taking out PAFs, merely a modern Gibson PAF clone.
