ltkojak1281734118
Hi, I own an Epi G-400 Custom, which comes withe the said p'ups... anybody knows their specs, or know where to look for'em? I've searched the Epi site to no avail. I'd specifically like to know what AlNico type are, II or V (I don't think they use other types, even though there are seven different types of AlNiCo, mind you) If anybody is willing to help, I'm all ears! Ricochet
Presumably you're refering to the Epiphone 57CH in neck and the HOTCH in bridge? Resistance is 7.8 Kohms and 14K ohms respectively. And yes, Alnico V.
Muskank Sally
The Epiphone catalog usually shows every pickup/spec for all guitars they make. I have both the 2007, 2008 catalog..... Waiting patiently on the 2009 catalog. HOTCH ('57+) is a favorite of mine. Very Good Uncapped!

And yes' date=' Alnico V.[/quote'] Yep, those are the ones! AlNiCo 5, huh...? So I don't understand why the neck p'up sounds so muddy, even when used clean. The bridge p'up, OTOH sounds ok. Can anybody suggest any mod to avoid the muddyness...? The Epiphone catalog usually shows every pickup/spec for all guitars they make. HOTCH ('57+) is a favorite of mine. Very Good Uncapped! "Uncapped" you mean without the cover? Sorry, English is not my mother tongue. Looking forward to hear from you, Yours truly, Pepe aka Lt. Ricochet
Old versions had ceramic magnets. I think around 2001 they changed to Alnicos. Here is a pic of the old ceramic(left) and new Alnico ones(right). Personally I think the neck PU is way better than the bridge PU. Maybe removing the covers may add some definition. Or changing to a higher grade potmeter and caps. If your PUs have a ceramic magnet, I'd try to replace it with Alnico.
