I'm not sure how to tell if this is Japanese or Korean, as the guitar dater website says Korea (1991), but there is some debate on whether it is or not. Aside from the serial number (which I hear are unreliable), how can you tell one from the other? And which one is more correct to the original? or more valuable? Either way, it looks in great shape and it has the rare antique sunburst finish which i love, so im going to be happy with this guitar no matter where it was made. I just bought one myself (and I'm waiting on it to arrive), so I know your pain! Beautiful, unique finish there. I usually don't dig the 'burst on Casinos as much, but that one is much more subtle. According to Wikipedia, Gibson moved to Nasvhille between 1974 and 1984 (which is quite the range...). Not being an expert, it looks a lot like a Matsumoku to me. Chris[/quote'] It`s Japanese, made by Matsumoku, in December 1981, I have one the same colour from 1982 (see Avatar). I think they are great Casino`s, very raunchy and bright,not as subtle as the Lennon 65 Reissue that I have, but can hold it`s own. As for how you tell the difference, well there are several, but the best is the neck joining the body at the 16th fret, all Korean Casino`s join at the 17th!(although a lot of the early Japanese Terada pre Elite/Elitists do too).Enjoy your new Casino, and if there is anything else you want to know about it, just PM me, or better still, if you search my posts, you will find a Casino comparison test that I did, between the Matsumoku, and a Lennon 65, on the 13th of October.
