dubstar
I have read about people doing this in an attempt to open up the top...any first hand experience? I'm thinking one of mine is over-braced...seems more noticeable now that it is winter...

Ship of fools
Its a bad idea because you need to take the guitar apart ( top off ) to do that properly or else you may make one side to small or to thin, its never a good idea unless you really know what you are doing as you will change the dynamic of the top, and not allow it to move the air properly to give you volume of sound and if its uneven then you may take away enough vibration that the sound will not be what you want to hear.Ship
TommyK
If you are wanting to slim down the braces, sanding will be a very long, tedious, boring, carpal tunnel producing task. 'Shaving' braces have been done to improve tone since WWI. Not so much on an Epi as the cost is prohibitive on a modestly priced guit tar. To do it right,.. or even do it at all, the top or back has to come off.
