palpal Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 I welcome the added weight which will give the axe more resonance sustain. A local luthier said grovers are too heavy and the neck could acrue water damage. He recomends sperzle ( sp? ) of course he sells those. This guy has some weird ideas, what is he refering to ?? Water damage ??? Too heavy ?? thanks, Don
lostindesert Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 The original Gibson Les Pauls used light weight hardware. I don't think the Grover tuners will give more sustain, a Fathead maybe will. Gotoh or Schaller Kluson replica tuners will give a more authentic look. Peter
palpal Posted January 4, 2009 Author Posted January 4, 2009 Peter, thanks...good info. Won't heavier keys add a slightly warmer tone ? What about the moisture related idea. Tech said...the heavy keys will attract or (enable) moisture to the bolt on area. ??? Have you ever heard of this? Don
lostindesert Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 Don, never heard about the moisture idea. Makes no sense to me. As to the keys make a sound difference once the strings pass the nut, i don't know. I think a well cut nut (bone), saddles and good pickups will give better tone. Peter
