twangster007
I am no guitar guy tech wise, but I do have a bit of DYI knowlege. My question is. The Gibson P-100, yes that is what I have not a P-90, Since it is a stacked the pickup pole height ajustment should be ok or more so than with a P-90? or am I way off the mark and need to go another route? I ask because I raised mine to match the the pickups and want to make sure I didn't do a big mistake.
generation zero
Not sure what you mean exactly by raising the pole pieces to match the pickups... Can you post closeup pics of what you are talking about?
twangster007
The neck pickup is natualy higher or louder than the bridge pickup. So to match the volume I raised the bridge pole pieces because ajusting the height of the pickups themself cannot happen without a shim of somesort. generation zero
Ahh, I see. That makes sense to me then, unless you have a crazy amount of pole piece sticking up out of the pickup... If it's minimal, it shouldn't be a problem. About the only other way I could see to match outputs would be to do something funky to the volume circuit on the louder pickup with resistors, but I have never seen such a thing done, and it would most likely have an adverse effect on tone. So yeah, aside from raising the pup with a shim, sounds like you're right on the money. Might want to wait for input from someone more familiar with that pickup and setup though, I'm only speculating.
