JohnWhirl Posted May 16, 2009 Posted May 16, 2009 Hey all. I've been playing a lot of acoustic over the last two years, and have gotten myself very used to the wound G string, both in feel and tone. I've looked a little (but not much) and the only sets I can find that come with a wound G are heavy gauge (and the electric sets are the same gauge as the Elixirs I use on my Taylor). I currently run 10's on my Les Paul and would like to go to a heavier gauge. So the questions I have are: Do you have any recommendations on string brands/sets to use that aren't quite so heavy (maybe 11's with the wound G)? How then do I best go about changing the set up on my LP Standard to make the new strings fit? Should I get a new nut? Should I adjust the bridge/set up/action/etc? Thank you all so much!
MichaelE Posted May 16, 2009 Posted May 16, 2009 You may have to adjust the truss rod and recut the nut slot for that string. You could always buy a separate wound string when you pick up what you will normally be using.
