carverman
I believe it is Epiphone's catalog number: ETEM T - Designation for a Semi Hollow (?) EM - EMperor Sheila Could also stand for "thinline" I suppose, as the EMPII is a thinner version of the original Emperor, which was a larger guitar and a bit thicker. There was a Emperor "thinline" back in the mid 60s..and I see it listed on the catalog in 1963 and '66 with the Sheraton and Al Caola version. http://www.vintageguitars.org.uk/EpiphoneEmperor.php Here's a current E-bay offering for one of the original pre-Gibson Emperors. I think this one is getting towards being worth it's weight in gold...certainly if not now, it will be in a few years. http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=290386646061

carverman
It's a regular model from the Archtop collection http://epiphone.com/default.asp?ProductID=10&CollectionID=1 Peter Correct..there is nothing rare about it. It's asian made and even though it's a nice looking guitar, it isn't going to appreciate that much over the years..like some of the made to order Emperors by Gibson back in the 60s. They were made to order then, and you needed to put down a sizeable deposit with the Epiphone dealer back then (25%, I think) and wait up to a year to get it. T does not seemto be " thinline " since it is not a thinline model. I've never seen the model# " ETEM " mentionned in any EBAY listing except once on internet so What does it mean ? The "T" is a designation. If not for the Semi's, then for the archTops. Look for yourself: http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=is&u=http://www.rin.is/verdlistar/Epiphoneverdlisti.htm&ei=xV1DS7zlM4e6lAeKwfCiBw&sa=X&oi=translate&ct=result&resnum=2&ved=0CBEQ7gEwAQ&prev=/search%3Fq%3Depiphone%2Betem%2Bebb0%26hl%3Den%26rls%3Dcom.microsoft:en-us Think of the bar code on your can of peas. THe first 6 digits means its Green Giant, the next means its a 10 oz. Baby Peas. Or the part number in the automotive part catalog. It's nothing, really. Perhaps then the counterfeiters might have a bit more problem identifying the product code? But as your mentioned, it's just a catalog number that stores can order different models without the confusion.. ie: "I would like to order the Emperor II Joe Pass with the blonde finish and the <whatever>_____ and the <whatever> This way, they drive the forklift up to ETEM skid, and pull one off for shipping. yaugnotsac
There is no ETEM model as already mentioned by Caverman I have a printed pricelist from 2005/06 and every product there has this type number for example the Emperor Regent in Natural is EPETMNA (NA for Natural) and the antique sunburst model is EPETEMAS (AS for Antique sunburst) and the fitting case for example is EJUMBO for example the BB King Lucille is EPETBBEBGH I think (not know) this is EP > Epiphone ET > Electic Thinline BB > BB King model EB > Ebony GH > Gold-Hardware according the EPETMNA is (IMO) Epi / El.Thinline / Maple / Natural I may be wrong' date=' but this make sense to me Peter[/quote'] Thanks for the specs ... it lights my lantern
