JoeyTR
Hi, i am thinking of buying an epiphone les paul but i am not sure which, should i: a) buy an epiphone LP-100 :- save more money and get an Epiphone Les Paul Standard (ebony coloured body) c) save even more money and get an Epiphone Les Paul Standard with a plain or flame top (i like herritage cherry)
gl297
If you already have a guitar to play to get you by then I say save for what you want the most, which I'm guessing is "C".
Sjael
I say at least stump for the Standard, it's not that much more, but you start to get into the premium features like Alnico Classic pickups and Grover tuners. :-

JoeyTR
thx a lot for all the advice. currently i do not own an electric guitar, but i have played bass for around 5-6 years. since i spend loads of time learning electric guitar parts on my bass (musicman ray34) i've gotten alright at guitar as well so i've decided to buy one. i'm by no way a beginner so buying the lp-100 is probably a mistake. i'll save for as long as i can to get the best model before i run out of patience. now the only remaining question is- ebony, plain top or flame top? animalfarm
Ebony is not "flame" Ebony is the AFTERMATH of "Flame" - set your guitar on fire, and what do you get? Ebony! http://instantrimshot.com/index.php?sound=rimshot (click on red dot that appears to complete "joke").

Don't fall for that myth...all of the models have their own particular thing that is great about them. I have the least expensive model, a LP Junior but the thing plays as good any guitar I've ever owned...which by now has to be between 50-75, I lost track awhile ago. JoeyTR
^ yeah i probably put that the wrong way. it's the guitarist not the guitar that makes the music. i meant ebony, flame top or plain top. each as seperate finishes...
Dave
Get the one you want, even if it means waiting. We all have multiple models, some of which were purchased after buying what we could afford and later getting the one we really wanted. It's cheaper to wait... The.Traffic.Lights
I bought my first guitar recently, and I was choosing between the Casino, LP Std Ebony and LP Std Plus top. I personally do not see the point of overpaying for the plus or plain top - ebony looks pretty much nice, though it does sometimes get visibly greasy after playing. But a soft clean cloth cancels that out, and as a plus you'll learn to care for the finish[biggrin] And the ebony sound just the same as the tops, so no reason to take something more expensive. JoeyTR
yeah, i do like the ebony as much as the plus and plain tops, it looks pretty cool. i got to get to a shop and try them all out
