torca
Has anyone ever had a Gibson neck block separation off the back side of the guitar.I have a guitar where the action seemed to be changing, higher, especially from the 12th fret on. After close inspection when changing strings I noticed a distict gap on the botton of the neck block where it is typically glued to the interior back.It is substantial enough to slide a business card under about 1/2 inch or so on both sides of the back seam strip of the neck block.Any opinions? BigKahune
That doesn't sound good. Get it to a luthier/shop for an evaluation. Hope the best for you.
TommyK
The geometry doesn't support this type of failure. A failing neck block, a historic problem on early Norlin Epiphones, manifests itself by the neck block TOP separating from the sound board due to insufficient glue surface. The block rotates forward towards the tail block as the neck rises up. I've never heard of a Gibson failing in this manner. Nor have I heard of the neck block separating from the guitar back.
