billdraper
I want to buy a Gibson acoustic because i think they can sound fantastic. There is a J-45 for sale close by and is a 1975. Does anyone know about mid 70's J-45's? In good condition, is $1000 a good deal. The proof will be in playing it of course...I'll have to go take a look. Gotta have a Gibson acoustic...for that awesome base and midrange sound. zeebee
If it plays well, ask if you can have a luthier check it out. Maybe the seller can drop it off while you absorb the cost. Sounds like a good buy otherwise.

You might want to post this over on the acoustic forum or at least do a search over there you'd get more advice I believe. There was a a thread just recently http://forums.gibson.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=5884 There are many more if you search. Anyway, I have a 79. The 70s, are not regarded as a great time for Gibson, they had been bought by Norlin and build quality is regarded by some as inferior because in simple terms Norlin were money men and QC was not their primary concern. The guitars are also disregarded by some as they have square shoulders as opposed to the more usual rounded shoulder. (Disregarded by the same people who "just love the look of their SS Hummingbird, Dove" etc) However as a square shouldered J45 these guitars have a huge amount going for them. They are a little prone to cracking around the neck joint and there have been rumours of lifting bridges etc. But if you check it right out these faults are clear on any guitar. As for the price, I would personally bite their hand off at $1000 but you live in a different country! One went in the UK for £1100 two weeks ago!(but that was alledgedly mint) BR John John
