Construction - ES-175

Hello,

Just a quick question. In my limited experience the ES-175's have been all maple. I saw a maple top with mahogany sides and neck. Is that unusual or common. Was that considered a down-grade from the all maple?

As I understood mahogany is harder to laminate and more time-consuming, thus more expensive.

My black 1990 175 has mahogany sides and back.

 

The natural with mahogany sides and back are rare and sought-after

And yes, the naturals are much sought after as are the white ones.

I almost bought a white one 3 weeks ago, here on the Vintagebeurs Veenendaal.

First time I saw one, looked really cool but not for jazz, more for rock'nroll

Wish someone would post a picture of the white with Gold. I never realized how beautiful the black was until I say it in that 175 photo thread. I need one of each!!!
