Epi95
So, I got my epiphone 57 reissue Les Paul through craigslist about a year ago. He replaced the pick up (p-100) to a p-90. All was well and the guitar sounded really nice until just last month. I started to notice that the guitar was starting to sound muddy. I usually have it on distortion, and it's just not coming out as punchy as it used to. It had also been to the shop before it got muddy because of a veiled wire on the inside. It sounded great when i brought it home and I have changed the strings a couple of times but I don't think that that's what would be making it sound dull. I also contacted the guy from craigslist and he said the pick ups are only four years old. Can anybody help me resolve this problem?
james_edward
Pick ups need to be set up like anything else on a guitar. If you've changed strings perhaps the bridge is higher now than it was (strings further away from pick ups - higher action), this is probably the main cause of mud in a guitar that once sounded fine.
