G.M. Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 Hey fellas, I've got a Les Paul Signature w/Original soft shell case serial #185407 What year would this be?
ksdaddy Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 They were made from 1974 to 1978. My guess is closer to '74 for yours. If you have access to the volume and tone controls you can narrow it down further.
G.M. Posted August 13, 2008 Author Posted August 13, 2008 Thanksfor the info. The v knobs are clear kinda a brown tint. any ballpark assesment on value? The Guitar is in mint condition
ksdaddy Posted August 13, 2008 Posted August 13, 2008 Sorry, I should have made myself more clear. I meant the controls themselves, as in the "guts". Each volume and tone control has a code stamped on them that will tell when it was made and therefore has the potential to affirm or refute a guessed vintage. I wouldn't advocate removing them just for that however, as taking them out of a hollow body is a royal pain. I don't know if the sig model had an access panel in the back but if it did, that would be an easy way to see them. No idea as to value. It might be worth the $50 to have Gruhn appraise it (gruhn.com). Keep in mind the value he places on it is largely optimistic and is for insurance purposes. In other words, it's a lie. In the real world the market value is about 60% of what he will appraise it at. That's on a retail sale on a good day.
