I'd rather hear "Yes, we can do that, but it will be XX months until it gets done" rather than " we might let you know in three months." They are hand made. Each instrument will be different, and will require a varied amount of time, even if there are no hiccups along the way. They know the workload in front of them, the inquiring customer does not. I've actually been trained on this subject when I worked with Xerox. The majority of customers would rather wait for accurate info, than to be given guess after guess after guess.
