clif2001
I have a Gibson J-185 EC that I bought in 2004 and I have a question about resale value. I contacted Gibson to get information about the uniqueness of this guitar and was told that it was part of a special order made by Fuller's Vintage Guitars here in Houston. There were 12 guitars made for this order and, as far as I can tell from my correspondence with the factory, they are the only J-185 guitars made as such. Ther fret board has custom inlays and the headstock has an inlay of an angel playing the harp. I will try to get pictures up when I get a chance. My question is, does this increase the value of the guitar? Obviously, value depends on what the buyer is willing to pay, but I am curious to know the thoughts of those that love guitars. I am considering selling the guitar and would like to know the reality of it's value. Thanks for your comments.
BigKahune
Welome. Maybe. Maybe not. Pics are needed. Are there any other custom specs besides inlays? You might do better to post this in the acoustic subforum - http://forum.gibson.com/index.php?/forum/40-gibson-acoustics/
clif2001
I've added some pics for reference. Let me know what you guys think. jgwoods
I'm making a guess here, having sold 46 instruments on ebay... You might list it and have it sell for $2300 or so, or it might not get a bid over $1400. Then you could relist it a month later and have the opposite happen. If there's a couple of guys looking for a nice J-185 you win, if not, you lose. As for the Custom features I bet they add $100-$200 to the final sale price. That's my guess. I have put a good instrument on and had it really die, few bids, no luck. Wait a month and re-list and sell for big money. I think this is a good time to sell- people get Christmas money.
