undertow Posted January 26, 2011 Share Posted January 26, 2011 Hi Epiphone Loungers, This is my first post to this board, and I'm hoping to get some pickup advice. I recently bought a Dot that was stripped of its pickups and harness, and I need to get some new stuff. I used to have a Gibson 135 with '57 classic pickups that sounded great, so I thought that they would probably be a good pick for this guitar, too. However, I went searching on Ebay, and now I'm confused. There are both Gibson '57 classics, and Epiphone '57 classics. Although the listings for the Epi pickups all list them as "Gibson/Epiphone". Are these the same pickups? If they are, why is there a massive price gap between them? Is there a difference between the sound or parts quality? karine_plays Posted January 26, 2011 Share Posted January 26, 2011 it's like Epi Les Paul vs. Gibson Les Paul, it's a pretty good cheap reproduction but it will never be quite as good as the real thing. If you're taking the trouble to do the upgrade, you might as well put in the Gibson pickups (IMO) instead of putting in Epi 57's just to find out you're not happy with them.
