Recommended Posts

i have a 1953 archtop that i cannot seem to identify any further. it looks just like an L-50 but has a pickup and vol/tone knobs and i dont find ant reference to L-50's with elec.s.

Do you have a picture? Have you looked in Gruhn's Guide?

The L-50 was an acoustic and was not offered as an electric. Gibson came out with the first of the "ES" line in 1936, the ES-150. There were many other models to follow, and by the early 50's almost too many to keep track of.

The model that comes to mind as sort of an electrified L-50 would be the ES-125. Do some research into the early "ES" guitars and see what you find.

Posting detailed photos always helps these kinds of discussions.
