1964 j-45 microphone installation

Hi Guys...

I bought my 1964 j-45 a few months ago. Its 100% original and there has been no changes made to it and I´m enjoying it every day. But... I recently began playing in a band, and therefore I´m considering fiting a mic in the guitar. Would that be a sin? Should I instead bye a cheaper guitar for gigs?

If by "mic" you mean a pick up system, I have two thoughts. 1st, a guitar is simply a tool and should be used as such. If you want a pick up, put it in. On the other hand, I found that I could not personally ream an end pin on a vintage guitar and did not want anything between the bridge and saddle. Therefore I bought a Fishman Rare Earth sound hole pick up and installed it in the vintage guitar. At first I thought the sound was very magnetic sounding, however after using it for a while and working with EQ settings, I find that it gives a much better sound that the undersaddle pick up I was going to install. So to answer your question, it's totally up to you, but you might want to try a few options such as sound hole pickups before you alter your vintage guitar.

K&K has some good products:

Notably they also have the vintage jack as an option - this would preserve the integrity of your vintage guitar (you could easily reinstall the original endpin at any time):

K&K has an external mike that you can use that would not compromise the integrity of your guitar. I am intrigued by this one myself...
