dallasblues
I've got a Gibson 335 Satin that I bought new at Guitar Center a few years ago. The guitar feels pretty good and has a nice natural resonance when played unplugged. The tone isn't bad, but would like a little more clarity and punch. At first, I thought I should consider changing out '57 Classic pickups that are original to this guitar. But then a few people, from different forums, mentioned that upgrading the volume pots might brighten things up a bit. I just assumed that Gibson would have installed 500k volume pots at the factory when building this guitar. After emailing someone from Gibson, I was told that the Satin model indeed came with pots rated at 250k. After talking to a local guitar tech, he said changing the pots to 500k would result in squealing. Can anyone offer any thoughts?
