Nick H
Hi, I've have a 2007 ES137 Custom from new and although I love it to bits I've never found the neck particularly easy to get along with. I've noticed the fret wire on the ES137 is markedly taller than my other guitars and it's all too easy to sound out of tune with a little too much finger pressure when chording. It's not the width that's causing me problems but the height. Does anyone out there (hopefully from Gibson themselves) know what specific gague of wire Gibson used for this model? brundaddy
I love my 137 Custom but I have to agree with you - they are tall and not well-rounded. You can make vibrato with finger pressure, though. You might look into having the frets crowned a little.
guitaraddict1
I have a 137 classic I just bought new. I feel the frets are high too. I was told by a luthier that they are to spec though. I love the guitar though.
bluesboy323
My Es-137 requires a slightly lighter touch in root positions because of the wire height. At first I considered some fret work but I have gotten used to it. I play it capo'd quite a lot also, but that is just primarily because as I have aged I need to sing lower or trash my voice. With a capo on 2nd fret or lower the whole feel changes.
Versatile
I've just played my ES 137 Custom and haven't noticed anything untoward It compares well with a 330 and 335....maybe slightly narrower and higher frets Great guitar with it's own blend of character traits....
