mcplwray
Good day all This is my first time posting here. I recently acquired a guitar and I am looking to determine if it is real or fake. The seller purchased the guitar used in 1974. He purchased it from a small music shop in Hong Kong. The original bill of sale was provided and it is no doubt old. Unfortunately he sustained some injuries to his hands and stopped playing it quite some time ago and it has been stored in a case in a closet for many years. I checked the serial number thru guiter dater project and it advises that it was made in 1964-1966. However, it has the diamond label inside which I was of the beleif was not until the 70's. If anyone could help me out to detemrine if it is real or fake it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
BigKahune
. Welcome. We just had a thread on this label, first appeared in 1969 - - - http://forum.gibson.com/index.php?/topic/71143-help-me-find-the-year-for-my-es-335/ Does it have a volute? Post a clear pic of the back of the headstock.
mcplwray
There is no volute and after reading the link provided by BigKahune it would appear that it is at the earliest a 69. Does the placement of the controls appear correct??
BigKahune
. Knob placement looks okay. In the small pic it looks in excellent shape. But Hong Kong is a bit of a red flag. So, put up some bigger pics - overall top shot, headstock front and back. No angles.
