Hey guys... I'm looking forward to getting a Gibson Les Paul Standard 2011 but I was wondering is there a difference between the ebony LP's and the Bursts LP's because it seems there is like $2k difference... I was wondering why... and also is the 2011 Std better then the 2008 ? I only manage to try a 2011.. couldn't find a 2008... Do give your comments ^^

Welcome.

Go to the Gibson LP Standard website and read the MSRPs - http://www2.gibson.com/Products/Electric-Guitars/Les-Paul/Gibson-USA/2008-Les-Paul-Standard.aspx

The solid colors are $3509 MSRP

The bursts are $3899 MSRP

Let's see . . . . that's a difference of $390.

If you're comparing a ebony LP Studio $1799 MSRP, to a Standard LP burst $3899 MSRP you're are correct, but then you would be comparing prices of two different guitars, not two different finishes.

Hey man... yea... but how come the solid colours are still like 300$ cheaper ? is it the lamination or paint job or use in wood ?... sorry I calculated my money in Ringgit since I'm from Malaysia.. xD

The difference would be the effort/time involved in spraying a burst - takes more time and effort than a solid color. With a see through finish there's also the consideration of the clear maple for the top - and if the maple top is figured (a "plus" top). The burst finish LP Standard has a figured maple top.
