Tim Plains Posted December 2, 2011 Share Posted December 2, 2011 Take the pickups out and look at the undersides. They're probably 490/498. The 490 has Gibson USA on the underside. I can't remember if the 498 has anything. Weight-relieved body, short neck tenon, probably a fatter '50s neck, 300k volume pots / 500k tone pots, Gibson USA ceramic disc caps. Rosarius Posted January 12, 2012 Share Posted January 12, 2012 I'm a little confused here - apologies. I have a 1997 Gibson Les Paul Custom (Ebony, Gold H/W) serial number: 90427544. It doesn't appear to me to have a fat neck profile, and if it is actually weight-relieved, then a non weight-relieved one must have been a back-breaker.
