Gary Brereton
Hi - I intend to buy a 339, the Gibson Es339 is too much money for a home player so I will get the Epi, does anyone know, will the neck be the same size and feel as my epi les paul? Blueman335
the problem is - Epi Les Paul necks differ, even the same models do have different necks, at least this is what I noticed with my first Chinese LP Ultra II compared to my Korean Ultra II I noticed the same difference with two Tony Iommi SGs...produced at different factories +1. I have a bunch of Epi's, and the necks seem to vary on most models. That way you can get what you want. Most Epi necks are the 1960 thickness. I'm flexible so it doesn't matter to me what they are. I have a Dot with a thick 1958-59 neck (which is rare). If it's important to you, play it or have the seller measure it.
brianh
I have two set-neck LPs - a 57' Reissue Jr and a Special. Also two bolt-neck Jrs. The Ultra 339 neck is roughly the same thickeness at the 1st fret as the two bolt-neck Jrs and the Special, but thinner than the 57' RI which is supposed to be period correct. The width at the 1st fret is 1.685" on the 339 - narrower than the '57 RI and Special (and my Casino), but roughly the same as the two bolt neck Jrs. Hope that helps.
