plagueskill
I've narrowed my casino to these two choices, the Epiphone casino Elitist, or the 1961 Casino reissue, only reason im considering the 1961 is because from what i've heard it's got a decently fat neck, is this true? Also is the reissue constructed with the flimsy wood feel of a standard casino, or the better construction (5-ply I think its called) of an Elitist Casino? Versatile
A wildcard suggestion.... If one is spending a large amount of money on a reissue guitar The MIA ES 330 is worthy of consideration Possibly the closest to a 60's Casino available today.... But, Elitist Casino's go for $900 a lot used so its about a $1000 less than a ES-330, 61 reissues are only about $500 used.....
modern image
have not played the 61. the elitist i had was amazingly resonant. sounded great amplified as well. neck on the slim taper side. betting it's better than the 61.
spiral
The 61 Anniversary is one of the nicest hollowbody electrics i have played. I played the MIC Casinos, and the Elitist and found them fairly similar (i also owned and loved a MIK Casino in 1997). I hadn't played the 61 first since they aren't really in stores but I think the 61 is a far better deal. It sounds and plays wonderfully. The neck is pretty fat but also has a flat area, so like a fat / flat D? At first i didn't like it because i like a big C neck, but i really love it now: you can get the leverage you do chording with a big neck, but it still feels delicate to play single notes. It's a shame they are only making a small run considering it is one of the best Casinos they have made in years.

spiral
I'm completely unable to find any '61 Casino's Yeah. They had a few used ones and i got lucky on Musicians Friend (w/ coupon too!). Keep your eye on ebay and check ZZounds, as well as the various messageboards. If you are looking for one, i will keep my eyes open.
gypsyseven
Try to get a ´61 Anniversary....i have one in Royal Tan and have to say it´s an amazing guitar in feel, tone and look! The finish AND the tone are far better than the "inspired by" Casino i had.....
dougg330
I had an 'Inspired By' which I sold to help fund the purchase of my '66 ES-330. Nice guitar - very nice neck and tone. I recently played two '61's at a local GC. The first was awe-inspiring: better tone than my Inspired By (played thru a Vox AC-4TV, like mine at home), great playability, etc. The second was awful: needed a truss rod adjustment, the neck and bridge PU's sounded almost the same. Of the 3 (IBJL and the 2 '61's), I would say the best was the first of the '61's I tried. Guess you just have to try a bunch and sort out the greats form the not-so-hots.
