Whitmore Willy
Woody.Prm, Welcome to the forum and congrats on the guitar! Although not necessary, A useful tool for putting holes in a guitar is a pin vise: http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_00940737000P?mv=rr I use one here in post #3: http://forum.gibson.com/index.php?/topic/76854-beater-guitar-part-2/ If you are not confident about doing so, then, having a professional do it is always a good idea. The screw at the top (near the neck) is obvious. When setting the bracket, (you or anyone) keep in mind: The trick is to have the bracket set high enough on the side of the guitar that the bolt that goes through the pick guard and bracket does not contact and scrape your guitar. Sometimes the bolt needs to be shortened. (cut or ground down.) At the same time you do not want the pick guard rising above the pickup mounting rings at it's edge. This sometimes requires "tweaking" the angle of the bracket. Keeping a small cloth on your guitar, under the nut and bolt location, is a good idea until the job is done. Whitmore Willy
Additional thought.....And this is why so many of us work on our own guitars: If you have someone else do it: A. Make sure he does it in front of you while you wait. or B. Do a thorough examination of the guitar with who ever you are dropping it off with. Nothing worse than getting a guitar back and facing a nick, scratch, or ding and being told, "Gee, it must have been there when you dropped it off."
