strattwin
Just picked up a nice 2011 R9. For me, an 8.2 lb LP is light! What is the difference in tone/sustain if any in a light vs. heavy les paul? Seems to still have a hell of a lot of sustain as compared to my Strats. eljay
kudos on yer new axe! fwiw, i notice no difference in sustain between my wildwood r9 and my r8s. i've never weighed any of them but the r9 is noticeably lighter than either r8. p.s., guitar inventory in my sig is behind the times! CR9
The tone vs weight debate has been around for years. It is more than just weight that determines tone or sustain. I have had extremely light ones with better sustain and tone than heavy ones. Also heavy ones the same. It is the combination of the complete package of woods, wood density, construction, etc. To me and a lot of other, the chambered reissues between 7.5 and 8.5 pounds are fantastic. Some of the 11 to 13 LP Customs of the late 70's are great too. Weight alone will not determine tone or sustain.
