ykcor1138
Hi, I just bought my first real Gibson Les Paul Custom yesterday after many years of playing Epiphone knockoffs. Very Impressed! I was doing the basic setup, action, intonation, pickup hight adjustment and string change. I want to adjust the truss rod for optimum playability but first I need to know the relief gap for the neck. Normally on a fender you put a capo on the first fret and depress the last fret of the sixth string and check the gap between the eight fret and the bottom of the string with a feeler gauge. The relief is around .10" (0.25mm) Is this the same for the Les Paul Custom? Any help would be appreciated Thanks again!
L5Larry
Your procedure is good, and if that measurment works for you on your other guitars, then it will work on a Gibson. There is no difference just because the guitar is made by a different manufacturer. I've never actually measured it, but I think for best playability, you need only enough relief to eliminate any fret buzz as you fret up the neck.
