samsam
Hi, i'm italian, i'm new in the forum and i don't know if this is the right place for my question. I've bought on ebay a guitar with the body of a Stratotone (i don't know if Harmony, Silvertone...) and a neck that clearly doesn't belong to the stratotone models. At first i've tought it could be a Gibson neck, because the headstock is the moustaches type and the tuners are kluson deluxe double lines (patent D-169400). But on the front of the headstock there are written some letters "R. 61 .Y" then "Custom", a decorative logo and "A" "A". On the back there is a "R" and "Product USA" (stamped in very little characters and at the end of the neck the number 99320. The body is a 1961 (i know because the Dearmond pickups and the pots are of this year and in the electronic cavity there is written "61". I need help to identify the neck and i would like to know if others manufacturers, besides Gibson, used this type of headstock in the early 60's. I'll post some pics. Thanks to all and excuse me for my english.
JimR56
The headstock shape is reminiscent of a Gibson, but appears to be a copy. The shape of the "mustache", as well as the tapering of the sides, do not look like a real Gibson to me. The unique markings only add to that impression. I would say it's a custom-made neck, by someone who wanted to emulate the Gibson look.
Holmis
Sears sold a variety of brands of guitars back in the 60s/70s, take a look at this one, very much like a open book headstock, i think your´s is a variation of something like this! http://www.vintagesilvertones.com/forsale_silvertone_1460_red.html#EP10T
samsam
Thanks for the answer. I'll try to find a manufacturer R.Y. in the 60's, in the USA, which could make such a neck (i've visited sites such as jedistar but it seems that a manufacturer or a luthier with these characteristics didn't exist). JimR56
Really don't think this was made by a "manufacturer". More likely an individual craftsman, by the looks of it. Just my opinion.
BobB
Looks like an old Harmony model that someone reshaped the peghead on. I found an ad for what appears to be the same model on ebay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1960-HARMONY-Deluxe-Stratotone-Jupiter-Guitar-330-Series-Amps-Original-Ad-/140864379309?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item20cc2bd9ad
