noermaen
hello Question: I sighted a Gibson Grabber 1979 Have a look at the following pics (this are the pics from the seller, i can't provide better pics myself) according to this website, i think that the tuning machines are not original: http://www.flyguitars.com/gibson/bass/parts/tuning_key/#9 What do you think? The seller doesn't say anything that he changed the tuning machines. So i'm really uncertain. many thanks for your help!
noermaen
i'm really confused - it seems that this 1979 Grabbers really had such tuners, look at this: http://www.scolopendra.it/?pname=dettaglio_strumento&ID=35098&lang=en&a=1 and http://www.myspace.com/TheRedJulyMusic/photos/6091640#{%22ImageId%22%3A6091640} and and http://www.sevenstring.org/forum/bass-guitar-discussion/162642-nbd-1979-gibson-grabber.html and http://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/vintage-1979-gibson-grabber-bass-case-205981869 and http://basschat.co.uk/topic/149031-gone-gibson-grabber-1979/ so maybe it is really original?! Kelvinator
hello Question: I sighted a Gibson Grabber 1979 Have a look at the following pics (this are the pics from the seller, i can't provide better pics myself) according to this website, i think that the tuning machines are not original: http://www.flyguitar...s/tuning_key/#9 What do you think? The seller doesn't say anything that he changed the tuning machines. So i'm really uncertain. many thanks for your help! I'm no Grabber expert, so this is just my opinion: The pics aren't too clear, but they look like Schaller M4 style tuners to me; they are probably original. If it ever had Schaller BM style tuners, you would see extra screw holes and an imprint of the larger tuner plate on the back of the headstock. Also, I would think the BMs would require larger headstock holes than the M4s. Looks like a nice bass Are you buying?
noermaen
thanks for your reply. you're correct, the tuning machines are original, i asked the question over at talkbass.com, here's the thread: http://www.talkbass.com/forum/f8/tuning-machines-grabber-original-927870/ yeah, i bought it! Here's a short youtube clip me demoing that beast: (sorry for the crappy playing... :smug:) And finally, a LOT of photos. I dunno what that paint is on the back - thats the worst thing on the bass - otherwise - let the pictures speak..

Kelvinator
Nice Find. Whatever that is on the back - I'd leave it alone; she looks to be in incredible condition for a 33 year-old bass. BTW: I checked out the video - good job my man!
