dougg330
I keep seeing EBay listings for refurbished Epi '61 Casino reissues that have Duncan Antiquity pickups instead of the standard Gibsons. Anyone know what's up with that? Thanks -
bobouz
Refurbs showing up now? Stock Gibson P90s being pulled & replaced by Duncans? Something doesn't add up, imho.

Thanks - There is a place in Nashville called Musical Instrument Reclamation Corporation (MIRC) that buys seconds and instruments that have been returned to factories for various types of defects. They do repairs and modifications to get the instruments working and then sell them to re-sellers. They do not sell to the public. Their instruments can show up just about anywhere used instruments are sold once someone who deals in used instruments gets an account with them. I asked a guy about an EPI ES 335 on ebay one time and he described himself as a reseller of refurbished instruments and said he usually can't tell what the problem was with the instruments he gets since they are repaired already. Not knowing what the original problem was made me back away from the deal. This puts me in mind of that situation.

Recently bought a second from a refurbisher, it's an Epi Royale, had a small hairline crack on the headstock. Other than needing a pickup upgrade the guitar is great! But I agree, proceed with caution on the seconds in general, ask lots of questions and try the guitar first...
