JuanCarlosVejar
folks , is there a difference between these woods or are there essentially the same variety of koa ? back in 2011 I had the chance to have my mastermuseum J 200 (still under construction) built with mastergrade koa but I wanted it with a sky blue finish so Ren said the koa wouldn't look good in blue ... so we changed the specs to quilted maple ... often times I think about how much of a fool I was for not leaving the koa (and just change the color of the finish) .So this "regret" has become a constant and I have started to think that I will only have peace of mind once I have a J 200 done in Koa (be it Curly or Flamed) [if there is a difference] . And this is not to say quilted maple is not beautiful because it is ... but I just love Koa more . one of the things that I've seldom seen gibson do is a full bodied (top, back & sides) koa J 200 so this would be my aim to get a J 200 done all in koa with a flamed maple neck . It's going to take some time for this to happen . thanks JC
merseybeat1963
I talked with a guy who had and was selling a koa J200 & an older English Maple 1989-90 J200 and he felt the Maple sounded quite a bit better. Maple sold right away ..koa sat..you probably picked best.
