The Momi and its own Hank Risan don't have a reputation for, uh, let's say, accuracy. A couple of points. First, the shipping leaders don't list FONs/batch numbers. Second, Walter Carter denies ever making such a statement.

 

Here's a pretty good summary of the controversy and a conclusion that I support: my friend Ken Grosslight (who loaned a rosewood SJ for the Banner Gibson recording sessions) owns the first SJ-200, which was built in 1937 and is labeled "L-5 Special"
