Epiphone Pickguard

Pedrolns

Recommended Posts

Well, i need some help.

I just bought a Epiphone 335 Dot, black color, and the previous owner had told me about the flipping E logo, which i discover that is a frequent problem, he told me that he often put some super glue in the pickguard to hold the logo.

When i saw the guitar, i noticed some small glue remains, i tried to clean every way and i didn't like the final results.

The solution that i found, it was buying a newer pickguard, but now i am experiencing a new problem. hehehehe

I just need a tips to make my decision about the right material to chose.

These are the materials that I am in doubt:

The Original (http://www.terrapinisland.com/images/materials2012/BWB090.jpg)

The Gloss White (http://www.terrapinisland.com/images/materials2012/WHT%20PRL.jpg)

The tortoise (http://www.terrapinisland.com/images/materials2012/CBT.jpg)

Sorry about my poor english, that is not my native language and if i posted this at a wrong place, let me know and i remove the post.

Thanks!

Welcome to the forum. So far, you appear to be a person of good taste. Knowing to buy an Epiphone and dealing with Terrapin. It says a lot. John at Terrapin is a great guy, I used him several times and its always been a good experience. Personally, I like the black guitar/tortoise guard look, always have. If you are asking us for our votes, that's mine. When you can , send before and after pictures. Here's a "progression" pic of what my Casino went through when I first got it.

Funny how much the look can change with small variations.

And don't worry about your english. Many of us here have been struggling with it all of our lives. [biggrin]

Thanks by the advice! :)

When i change the pickguard i will take some pics and put on that post.

I search a lot for some of those "alternative configurations" of pickguards and was very hard do find some photo that show a good result.

I used a virtual modeling program to figure out the final look with every pickguard option.

These are the results:

Love the casino on the right hand side with the black p90 covers. Really looks nice does that. Gonna pick up a casino again in the future, think this may well be an option for me.

Tweed,

I really like the look of your Casino. I checked out the Terrapin site and saw the pick guards, but couldn't find the black pickup covers. Perhaps I overlooked them - are they from Terrapin as well? I'm considering the same look for mine....thanks!

I had those pickups made by another local (at least at the time, he's now moved to Hawaii) supplier, Pete Biltoft (Vintage Vibe). Both he and John (Terrapin) are from Oregon, right next door and I try to support those in my area. I went with VVs after trying a local Casino that had his neck pick up and a Lollar (another local boy) ridge P-90. I really liked his neck pickup and bought both, custom wound, with extra, differently rated magnets, in creme. When I changed pickup colors, I went back to him. There was something very "acoustic" and warm with the way he wound the neck and oriented the magnets. From what I can tell, there isn't an easy way to change the pickup covers on a stock Epi P-90. I have 5 different types of P-90s on 4 different guitars and I don't think that any are exactly sized/shaped as the other. VVs on my Casino, MCM Guitarworks and a stock P-90 on my Zephyr Blues Deluxe, a Heywood Habanero on my Junior and a Kent Armstrong on my EJ160 clone. All are black. All have their strong and weak points, price and sound. Maybe too much information?

Maybe too much information?

Not at all...I admit to being "information challenged" when if comes to pickups. When I had Dimarzios put on my Strat, I followed the advice of a brother-in-law who manages a rather large/successful music retailer in the Atlanta area., and I liked the result. He even installed them on for me. Heck, I don't even own a soldering iron... [crying]

So, I guess the short answer is to find a local or Internet source. Again, the main reason is not that I am dissatisfied with the stock, per se, but love, Love, LOVE the aesthetics on your guitar. Cooler than hell!

Thanks for all the info...
