bluezguy Posted March 11, 2013 Share Posted March 11, 2013 Please tell me it ain't so. I purchased new 2-wire BB1 & BB2 pickups from MusiciansFriend.com about a year ago for my LP Standard. I purchased them because I love unpotted pickups. My playing style uses a lot of controlled feedback, octave splitting, whatever ya wanna call it; therefore my choice. Lately, I've been reading 'forums' and such where they seem to say that the BB1 and BB2 are now 'wax potted'. UPDATE: Gibson Customer Support ... (now I can sleep again) said during my interrogation using the 5000W par can, "only the factory installed ones are wax potted. The 2-wire aftermarket ones are still NOT WAX POTTED"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What a relief! (for my purposes). Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
marvar Posted March 12, 2013 Share Posted March 12, 2013 I might be wrong- this is my understanding of it- When they first came out the BB's (A2) a weren't wax potted. When the BB pros (A5) came out those models were wax potted. At some point, I don't know exactly when, I think they started potting all the BB pickups. But, I'm not even sure about that!
