Unadan
A buddy of mine has a 61 Reissue SG that has the high output 57 Classic pickups. I really love the sound and responsiveness of this guitar. I understand this model has been dicontinued (why??). Anyway - is there a current production Gibson SG with similar pickups, sound and features? btoth76
Hello! '57 Classics are the mildest Gibson humbuckers. The '61 Reissue is still in production, but this time with correct name on it: http://www2.gibson.com/Products/Electric-Guitars/SG/Gibson-USA/1961-Les-Paul-Tribute.aspx Cheers... Unadan
Why is Gibson referring to this guitar as a Les Paul?
Unadan
Show me some links where the 61 Tribute Les Paul can be purchased from please. It looks to me like another discontinued model.
cjsinla
Why is Gibson referring to this guitar as a Les Paul? That is what a 1961 Les Paul looked like. The name was changed to SG after Mr Les Paul asked Gibson to take his name off, he didn't like them. I don't think that Gibson is currently making one like that. Look at their Custom Shop models for stuff made like they used to.
btoth76
Hello! The new design got renamed in late-'62 from "Les Paul" to "Solid Guitar". Cheers... Bence
