312_JS
Hello everyone. I just bought a lovable 1936 Gibson Black Special #4 in an unreal condition. I'm looking for a set of magnetic pickups for her. Preferably something sounding similar to Charlie Christian, P90 or the AlNiCo V Staple pickup. The problem is that there is only around 6 mm clearance at the neck position. I've already sent an email to Pete from Vintage Vibes, but I'm open to suggestions. Thanks a lot in advance! jedzep
I'd love to get a look at it. Can you shoot with better light?

JimR56
Oh, that's a thing of beauty. I think you may have the date wrong, though. It appears to be a wartime special, from the 1943-1946 era. Is there a number inside? As far a a pickup, I think I might have the perfect suggestion for you. I've never owned one of these, but if there's room for it on there, it might be perfect. First, here's the video where I discovered them: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=migCnthIb9Y Here is a link to the builder's page for the pickup: http://www.vintagevibeguitars.com/windows/sc_ccWin.html I've owned three Gibsons with CC pickups (a 1940 ES250; a 1950 ES350; and the 1966 L5 in my avatar), and I think this Biltoft CC pickup sounds really good. Edit: Oops, I just realized that "Pete at Vintage Vibes" is the same source I'm talking about! Ha ha.

Wartime guitars also had a wooden trapeze. The thinnest Pete is able to do these pickups is 0,95 cm, unfortunately.
