sling blade
Hi guys, newbie here. Im looking to buy a R8 and I was wondering if the ones made in some years were better than others. I have heard that gibson was using laminated fretboards on the new ones. Is this true? Thanks for the help.
Tim Plains
Yes, 2012s have laminated fretboards but not all of them. The ones made very early in the year did not. Spec wise, some years are better than others. Tone wise, no. No one can say that 200x guitars sound better than 200y guitars. Spec wise, 2009 - 2011 are probably the best years if you frown upon the new fretboards. They changed the crummy corian nut to a better nylon nut and the pots were changed to audio taper. This isn't 100% accurate but it should give you a good run down of the changes from year to year. http://www.mylespaul.com/forums/historics-reissues/86299-historic-changes-93-07-a.html
