Yes! the video I saw with the torch tip cleaning files also showed this. He said you could just use a file to cut the jagged edges on the feeler gauges. I was thinking of that too, but I figured the other idea was an actual file. Do you think it makes a difference that the torch tip cleaning files would file a rounded-bottom slot, where as these would file a flat-bottom slot, unless they are angled in a way to file a v-shape slot?

I just got a 2018 Gibson J-45 with the LR Baggs VTC pickup. I’m a bedroom guitar player with hopes of playing out at coffee shops, restaurants, etc. I have a few amps for my keyboard and electrics already, and I’m wondering if I need to invest in an acoustic amp, or if something I have would be feasible or maybe even better. Are any of these options just as good or better than getting an acoustic amp? 1.) Straight into a Fender FR-12 powered FRFR speaker. 2.) Straight into a QSC CP8 powered FRFR speaker (it has two inputs with individual volume knobs). 3.) Plug it into a UAFX Dream ‘65 or Lion ‘68 (amp/cab sim/modeler) and plug that into the Fender FR-12 or QSC CP8. 4.) Use an acoustic amp simulator pedal like the Boss AD-2 going into the FR-12 or QSC CP8. 5.) Boss Katana 50 MkII on the Acoustic mode. 6.) Roland KC-80 (has 3 inputs with separate volume knobs) that I use for my keyboard. Other ideas?

It seems pretty well accepted that the case is the best place to store them. If hanging on a wall, the wall should be an inside wall, meaning that the other side of the wall isn't facing outside. Apparently, the inside of exterior walls will be affected by the outside temperature so that in winter, the guitar could be cooler against it's back than the front, which is facing the room, causing warping and seam separation. In north Florida, I've never seen low humidity in our house. I have a humidity meter, and it is always showing between 50-68 humidity all year in the office, where I keep the guitars.

That's hilarious. I'll try to look that up. The reason I as is mainly because on Reverb, when you search Gibson J-45 Standard, it gives one choice of "Gibson J-45 Standard" and another choice of "Gibson J-45 Standard 2009 - 2019," implying that the current J-45 Standard is from 2020 till now, and that there is something different about those compared to the 2009-2019 ones. Maybe it's just that they added the cherry red one to the lineup because that's the one they show in the photo for the former.

That's true, and Sweetwater says they don't have the G string anymore. They have something called granny panties, whatever that is.

Right! If they save 1/1000 of an inch on every nut, they can make an extra, free nut after making 1,724 nuts. They're geniuses.

The more I've been researching and talking to people, it seems that there hasn't been any changes to this model since 2008 or 2009 whenever they put the LR Baggs Element pickup in them. The only thing I could find, and I am not sure if it is a typo or a matter of what measuring device was used, is that Gibson listed the J-45 in 2018 as having a 1.725-inch nut width, and Sweetwater lists it now as having a 1.724-inch nut width. It's hard to imagine that Gibson would specifically start a specific plan to reduce the nut width by 1/1000 of an inch.

I found one difference for anyone interested. At least in 2018, the nut with was listed as 1.725, right now, on Sweetwater, it is listed as 1.724.. seems strange to shorten the nut by 1/1000 of an inch.

Even the write-up from 2018 till now is identical except they removed the “2018.” Thanks.

I was hoping to get the go-ahead from seasoned players to use a Universal Audio Dream '65 (Fender Deluxe Reverb amp/cab sim pedal) or Lion '68 (Marshall amp/cap sim) into a Fender Flat Response speaker (Fender Tone Master FR-12) or a Quilter Sound Company PA speaker (QSC CP8). That's how I run my electric guitars, and it would be great to hear that it's acceptable for acoustic guitars, not just possible, but considered a legit way to do it. Thanks for your sage advice.

Wow, those amps sure differ in price. The Acoustasonic amps seem pretty affordable. I just got a used J-45 on Friday. I've hardly put it down since. It seems to be the exact same specs as what I see listed on Sweetwater, e.g., VTR UST active pickup system, thin-feeling/looking neck, sunburst finish, Grover Rotomatic tuners, etc.). I sanded the bridge down a little, and it was plastic, so I'm guessing it was probably the Tusq, but not 100% sure. I believe it's a 2018, because it's stamped 2018, but the serial number indicates that it was made on Oct. 12, 2017 (SN: 12857...). I'm guessing that the guitar was made on that date, but meant to be part of the 2018 lineup (correct me if I'm wrong). I'm just curious if Gibson made any "improvements" since then. Thanks.

The neck feels and looks like a slim taper. I tried a TV version (probably '50s) at Guitar Center, and that neck was very fat. This one says Standard on the sound hole sticker and seems to have the active LR Baggs VTR UST pickup system.
