  1. So Ive finished the fundamentals of my orginal that I posted here a month ago.

I added a third part including a solo at 1.50 min followed by a bridge and a melodic outro (actually based on a suggestion here). Ive also completed the lyrics and name the song: No Way Out.  Its also increased a bit in tempo.

Ive got a lockdown open mike at my place tomorrow where 4 guitarists will have a go the solo, then we will produce it.

If anyone has any other suggestion feel free to shout out.

I did a fast demo recordign of the full song (minus solo) on music memos app on my Iphone tonite with a drum beat on my phone, no effects with the banner LG-2, single one track take.

    cheers,

    EA

  2. Yeah, she's a real stunner ...we do require a sound sample or we'll just pretend youre making it up.

Id hate to know how much  SJ-200 TV would cost back in Australia, but it would be a nose bleed no doubt.

  3. Just listened again to a few Youtube vids ....it really is bold and big sounding. Isnt it a bit too big sounding ?  How does stack up to vocals, not overpowering ?  Deos remind me of my Martin J-40 which also has a big, bold tone, almost too big .... until i turned it down half a step and found the sweet spot.

The Firebird is a monster, , , if you can say that about royalty. It's loud'n'big and full of bass'n'bliss. And as chakAK mentions offers a fine if not immaculate balance. A very soft guitar also - should we say elegantly mellow. As such it doesn't rock much - its nature is simply too classy to hit the primitive cool needed. For that same reason I have lowered my action to what many would consider too much. But I stand by it - it's a bit like having the king on a weekend visit and on the second day leading him through paths in the park where not only shoes, but also the lower pants sleeves get muddy. The dirt becomes a 'cleaner' - it's how things become real, right. .

The F-bird isn't the most played acoustic here, but it stands as the majesty and thus plays an important role on the herd-scale. It sets perspective and I would miss it if it went.                              Yet this giant wouldn't be on the boat to the desert island. That choice is still a topic for back and forth speculations in this temple.

Hmmm, perhaps the second biggie :  the re-necked 66 CW.

So ... youre saying you like it Em 7 .. ?

Along the lines of one of your thoughts...

I listened to this a couple times again last night.  I wondered if one of those outro  instrumentals would bring it home nicely. A real slow, but powerful passages. Right into the center spot where the vocal would be, and using a healthy dose of whatever the early atmospheric vibe via delays and reverb used earlier.

It might be especially useful if the last phrase was profound to the song's intent.

The last note(?) of the guitar in your demo is what clued me in on it. Almost like not hearing it was unresolved.

(Edit: A statement solo might also be interesting if, instead of the pre-delay giving it a more up front presence, perhaps simply reducing the ambient sounds. I heard this done with a vocal in the last chorus of a Jim Croce song the other day. )

I like your thinking, that kind of Dave Rawlings style lead outro he's so good at doing supporting Gillian ....but Ill need my producer buddy to do it, my lead skills are pretty avergage, fills and gaps yes but actualy lead melody, so so ....

    Thanks for the input !

  7. Actually,  believe it or not .. I recorded it on my old Cort, simply because it was the closest to my desk when I got in the mood to record.

However the inspiration came from the banner LG-2 when i was noodling a couple weeks back on her.  The vibe and melody came out of that old school mahogany tone, especially those soulfull 7ths. So i will prbably produce it with that guitar as I hear old mahogany in there, but perhaps use the Dove for the fills to give it a bit of sparkle.

I agree it does have a bit of Stones, Wild Horses vibe, but I was not thinking of that track at all when the melody and mood came, I had more of a pictre of Scottish / Irish vibe, some whiskey by the bar ...

It still needs a third part that builds on the first two and can still surprise, could be a lazy Ronny Wood type solo, with some tasty slides and pull-offs ....Ill see.

A good friend of mine is a producer, and he also gave the track the thumbs up. Happens to also be a superb guitarist, so if i dont crack the solo i might let him put his stamp on that section.

Its a great hobby though, isnt it ...so important to stay creative and not get numbed out with whats going all around us.

Thank you for your support folks !

Very atmospheric. I agree with Lars in that less is more, but that’s just me. You’re onto something good.

Being a word guy, it is hard for me to catch all the lyrics.

Me too .... because Im still figuring out the lyrics ...lol .. I have the idea of what I want to convey, and have a few nice line but not the whole thing, so you see me mubling there quite a bit with the molody. Thank you for the input.

    Nice!

Something must be in the air. I've been messing with something along that line for a month or two.

    verse

    [G][Bm][Em] - [C][Em][Am] x2

    [C][Em][D]

    chorus

    [Bm][Am][Bm][Am]

    [C][G][d?] - [C][Em][D]

back to verse. Not yet decided on that last chord progression on the chorus. I write backwards. This is one of the few occasion where lyrics will follow the chords and melody. I don't even have the 1st syllable yet.

Yes, that seems similar to my prgoression, except the minor chords ar 7ths, to give it that more laid back, loungey feel.  For me the vocal melody drove the procss and mood. Please share  your track when ready, would be good to hear it !

Very, very promising! I like the feel of it a lot?

What do you want it be?

I always feel less is more in home recordings. The more stuff added on to basic guitar and vocal tracks, the more difficult it is to mix and get to sound good, unless you really know what you are doing. If I were you, I'd keep it simple as is, with some kind of added hook or chorus. Again, great start!

    Lars

I think you might be right Lars, I think with this track less is more, give the song space to breathe, keep the mood. Still need to finish lyrics and third part. Ill try to produce it after and share it. Thanks a lot  for the inputs !

  11. Hi, Ive started again to have some more energy for orginal recording in this crazy lockdown period.

Ive had this tune in my head that Ive been humming over a simple progress (G, Bm, Em, C) and recorded it on a two track (fingerpcking, vox  track 1 and fills on track 2).

Its a lazy, moody ballad, vocals rather differnt then what i normally do, but it seems to work.

But Im a bit stuck after the two minut and couple turn arounds .

Was wondering what your thougths are, and also how would you build the track - bridge, lead part, drums / percussion ...or throw it in the trash ?

    thanks in advance !
